Mark Thompson
Mark A. Thompson, a seasoned nonprofit executive with over 30 years of experience, brings a wealth of expertise in community impact, leadership, and organizational development to his interim position.
Thompson has served for 20 years as executive staff at the largest YMCA in the nation, and most recently as Chief Operating Officer for the YMCA of the East Valley in California. He notably developed YMCA Camp Surf from its startup phase into a nationally recognized overnight camp focused on conservation and youth development and oversaw the turnaround of a struggling YMCA as Executive Director.
Active in his community, Thompson has served on several boards for nonprofits focused on education, youth development and humanitarian efforts. He holds a master’s degree in leadership and nonprofit management and a bachelor’s degree in human services. He is also an accomplished thought leader, published in the Journal of Community Strengthening and serves as faculty for leadership development courses.
Thompson is now focused on supporting organizations through leadership transitions in an interim capacity. He also consults for nonprofits that require support with strategic planning governance, board development and leadership recruitment.
Residing in Southern California with his family, Thompson is passionate about conservation and the outdoors. In his spare time, he enjoys carpentry, surfing, skiing and golfing with family and friends.
